Executive Summary
he Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (SURWASH) project conducted by the Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics (KDBS) provides a comprehensive baseline mapping across six Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Kaduna State: Chikun, Igabi, Igabi, Jemaa, Sabon Gari, and Soba. Surveying 116,467 households and a population of 788,653, the findings reveal significant insights: 96% of households have toilet facilities, with Igabi leading at 34,997 household toilets; 1,573 water facilities were identified, though approximately 41% dry up seasonally; 1,012 communities were mapped, with Igabi covering the most; and 166 health institutions were recorded, with Soba having the highest at 44. Igabi has the highest average distance to water facilities was 273.3 meters, taking an average of 13.7 minutes to reach. Non-functional water facilities were mainly due to quality issues, dry wells, and broken pumps, with Soba and Sabon Gari reporting the highest numbers. These findings provide essential data for strategic interventions to enhance water supply, sanitation, and overall community health in Kaduna State, emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring and sustainable
resource management.
