Executive Summary
Early Childhood Development (ECD) is a holistic concept that refers to the physical,
cognitive, socio-emotional, and linguistic development of young children until the time
they transition to primary school – from birth to six years old.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) through the Lafiya
program seeks to demonstrate scalable Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health
(ASRH) and Early Childhood Development (ECD) linkages in Northern Nigeria. The
program uses an approach that is intended to ensure access to and utilization of
productive health services along the continuum of care with a particular focus on
adolescent health, Early Child development, and the Girl Child. For effective and
successful integration of ECD and ASRH program in the state, knowledge of the
number, location, and proximity of ECD and ASRH centres within the state is
inevitable and is necessary. This study was conducted in collaboration with the Kaduna
State Bureau of Statistics, and it involves the use of data collector and relevant
stakeholders.
